Smart Sweets is a candy manufacturer currently offering five really amazing gummy candy products; Sweet Fish, Sour Blast Buddies, Peach Rings, Gummy Bears, and Sour Gummy Bears. These candies are the closest to what you would expect from similar sugar candies that I’ve found yet, and have a satisfying, stick-to-your-teeth, squishy gummy texture. They’re currently my go-to candy when I want a fruity treat.
A bag of Smart Sweets candy, although all of them slightly different, contains about 35g of carbohydrates. 28g of this is dietary fiber with only 3g being natural sugars. The fibers are soluble plant-based fibers, and stevia leaf extract is included as an additional sweetener. Smart Sweets are free from sugar alcohols, gluten free, non-GMO, and a few of them are entirely plant-based.
The Smart Sweets website page about ingredients states:
We love candy too! But we don’t love all the sugar, weird artificial colors, and high calories in traditional sweets. Our pinky promise to you is candy free from sugar alcohols, artificial sweeteners and added sugars.
One of the things that I love most about Smart Sweets is, according to their nutrition information on the package, one serving is ONE ENTIRE BAG. Something I see time and time again with low-sugar or sugar-free candies is one serving will usually be an absurdly small amount, like 1 piece, or 3 pieces, usually due to the presence of sugar alcohols or other sweeteners that can cause digestive distress. There is a certain satisfaction that comes with eating a larger amount of candy over a longer period of time, piece after piece, and we’ve all heard the bathroom horror stories that come with this behavior for many sugar-free candies. With Smart Sweets, you can reclaim that satisfaction without fear of digestive problems. With an entire bag being a single serving, and all natural sugars and sweeteners, you can literally eat the entire bag. For me at least, I have zero stomach problems afterward.
On a completely tangential note, my day job is in venture capital. I regularly get investment pitches and am evaluating startup companies for investment, and it’s always nice to find a company that is female founded & owned, like Smart Sweets is.
In conclusion, I can’t recommend Smart Sweets highly enough. Head on over to their online shop and build a box of candies for yourself. I recommend trying all five. You certainly won’t be disappointed.
